Bio
Nikolaj is a Danish filmmaker and screenwriter. His widely acclaimed 2012 film A ROYAL AFFAIR won two prizes at the Berlin International Film Festival and was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards.
He made his directing debut in 2004 with the political thriller KING’S GAME, which won him the award for Best Director at the Danish Film Academy Awards. It was followed by the adventure film ISLAND OF LOST SOULS in 2007 and the generational comedy TRUTH ABOUT MENT in 2010. As a writer, he penned the screenplay for the original Danish language THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO.
He recently worked on the RIDERS OF JUSTICE remake for Lionsgate, co-writing with the film’s director Anders Thomas Jensen with whom he originated the story. And he is currently developing alongside Jensen a limited series THE MONSTER OF FLORENCE for Apple, with Wildside and StudioCanal producing and Antonio Banderas attached to star.
in 2022, He reunited with Mikkelsen for THE BASTARD, with Zentropa producing. TrustNordisk are handling sales and Magnola will release the film in North America.
