Writer/Director

Cathy Brady

Bio

Cathy’s lauded debut feature WILDFIRE premiered at the 2020 Toronto Film Festival and also played in competition at LFF, where Cathy was awarded the prestigious IWC Film Bursary. Jury president Michaela Coel wrote of the film:

WILDFIRE is a compelling story, expertly told and unlike anything we had seen in UK filmmaking before. Cathy weaves an emotionally rich, intimate story of two sisters elegantly framed against a wider, politically charged backdrop, she says so much without saying very much at all. Great films make you think and jolt you out of your comfort zone, in the very best way WILDFIRE was deliciously uncomfortable!

For her work on WILDFIRE she was awarded the BIFA for Best Debut Screenwriter.

In 2011, Brady directed the BIFA nominated short Rough Skin starring Vicky McClure as part of Channel 4's Coming Up scheme. Her short film, Wasted, competed at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2013. In the same year, Brady was named one of Screen Daily’s ‘Stars of Tomorrow’. In 2014, Brady directed on the BAFTA-nominated drama-thriller series Glue and followed that up with comedy series Can’t Cope/Won’t Cope for BBC Three.

She is currently in production on Block 2 of limited series THE DOLL FACTORY for Paramount+.
